Nick Sherbina assists clients in developing and protecting their intellectual property assets as well as navigating and mitigating potential risks, working closely with clients to devise and implement robust, practical IP protection strategies in the face of an ever-evolving IP legal landscape.

Nick focuses his practice on patent prosecution and IP counseling on patent, trade secret, and licensing matters. He specializes in various life science technologies, particularly the biotechnology and pharmaceutical arts, including diverse diagnostic and therapeutic areas such as oncology, immunology, infectious disease, molecular diagnostics, gene therapy, and protein therapeutics. His practice includes counseling and opinion work on issues relating to patentability, freedom-to-operate, patent validity, and infringement.

Nick brings over 20 years of patent law experience and ten years of scientific experience to his practice. Prior to entering law school, Nick worked as a scientist and researcher at several leading U.S. research institutions. He started his legal career as an associate for five years, before going in-house to work as a senior patent attorney for biotechnology company ZymoGenetics and then as IP counsel for Emergent BioSolutions. Prior to joining COJK, Nick owned and operated his own firm, serving corporate clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. He has a J.D. from Seattle University School of Law, a Bachelor of Science in biology from the College of William and Mary, and two years of graduate studies in molecular and cellular biology at the University of Washington.
