WIPO Elects New
Director General
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) announced the election of Daren Tang, currently the chief executive of Singapore's Intellectual Property Office, to serve as the organization's new director general. Mr. Tang will replace Francis Gurry, who was named to the position in 2008. As director general, Mr. Tang will be responsible for ensuring the efficient coordination of WIPO's strategic goals across internal sectors of the organization, as well as other external stakeholders, including other agencies of the United Nations.
Mr. Tang's appointment will be effective on October 1, 2020.
