The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will add 19 law schools to the USPTO’s Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program this fall. Announced today, four schools will join the patent portion of the program, ten schools will join the trademark portion of the program, and five schools will join both the patent and trademark portions of the program. The addition of the 19 schools will bring the total number of participating law schools to 47.

With the guidance of faculty clinic supervisors, the program enables law students to practice patent and/or trademark law before the USPTO, providing real-world experience to future intellectual property (IP) attorneys. The selection of the added law schools was based on each school’s IP curricula, pro bono services to the public, and community networking and outreach.
