COJK and Foster Pepper PLLC, cooperatively with the Washington State Patent Law Association and the King County Bar Association IP Committee, hosted members of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), including several Administrative Patent Judges, in town for a roundtable discussion of the new AIA trials. Related activities included a welcome dinner at Blueacre Seafood and a luncheon with judges from the Western District of Washington. The roundtable presentation, “AIA Trial Roundtables,” included a ‘lessons learned’ report describing the Patent Office’s experience to date with the new procedures, including specific practice points, statistics, a role-playing demonstration, and techniques for successful motions practice. COJK member Brandon Stallman participated as a panel member of the roundtable, which, took place on May 1 at the University of Washington Odegaard Undergraduate Library.
