The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the Smithsonian Institution have signed a five-year collaboration agreement to develop programs and exhibitions showcasing American innovation and ingenuity. The joint effort is designed to educate and bring awareness to the public about the importance of intellectual property (IP) rights and protection, as well as support the USPTO's mission of promoting IP literacy through a series of programs and exhibits. The USPTO will contribute up to $6.4 million to the project. The events will be hosted at various national landmark venues provided by the Smithsonian. The first event will be the Innovation Festival at the National Air and Space Museum, taking place on November 1-2, 2014.
