US Joins Marrakesh Treaty
The United States joined the Marrakesh Treaty as its 50th member, joining the 49 other countries that have already adopted the treaty administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The Marrakesh Treaty, first adopted in Marrakesh in 2013, allows limited copyright exceptions for the creation and distribution of published works in formats accessible to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or have other print disabilities. Under the Marrakesh Treaty, U.S. citizens are permitted access to the books published abroad of the member countries that are currently unavailable for exchange. The treaty will enter into force for the United States 90 days after the signed documents are formally deposited at WIPO.
