On July 29, 2014, a bipartisan group of lawmakers of the U.S. House of Representatives introduced the Trade Secrets Protection Act of 2014, a bill that would create a federal civil remedy for trade secret theft. The bill follows the Senate's Defend Trade Secrets Act, which was introduced on April 29, 2014. Both bills aim to update the Economic Espionage Act of 1996, expanding protection, at the federal level, for companies and individuals that have been victimized by trade secret misappropriation.
