The United States Patent and Trademark Office announced recently that the U.S. and Brazil signed a Joint Statement on Patent Work Sharing during Brazilian President Rousseff's U.S. visit on June 30, 2015. This agreement is part of a continual effort to expand and strengthen economic relations between the two countries. The joint statement emphasizes the importance and value of work sharing to improve efficiency in the patent application process, facilitate granting of patent rights, and reduce the cost of obtaining patent protection in multiple jurisdictions, which will help boost economic growth and development for both the U.S. and Brazil.
