Makiko Coffland Featured in WWL Member Publication
Attorney Makiko Coffland was a featured attorney in the Washington Women Lawyers’ (WWL) 2024 Members Highlighted publication. Highlighted in May, Makiko was one of five female attorneys interviewed for the publication so far this year. Highlighted members shared information about their backgrounds and their legal practices, and in some instances, provided insights about trends or changes in their fields of law. Makiko, a native of Japan, discussed her education and training in Japan and how she transitioned her practice to the United States. A marine and molecular biologist by training, Makiko began her career in intellectual property as an invention analyst for patent examination at the Japan Patent Office. Once she obtained her law degree in the United States, she became a patent attorney. She eventually expanded her practice to include copyright and trademark law, and currently focuses most of her time on her pharmaceutical trademark practice.
