Madrid System Marks 1.25 Million Registrations
On July 20, 2015, WIPO commemorated the registration of 1.25 million international trademark registrations under the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks. The Madrid System, also known as the Madrid Protocol, provides protection for a registered trademark in over 111 countries simultaneously. Under the system, a trademark application is filed in a single office, in one language, with one set of fees, and in one currency. Trademark applicants are offered a cost-effective and streamlined means of protecting and managing their trademark portfolio through one centralized system.
