Defend Trade Secrets Act Advances to White House
Following a unanimous vote by the Senate last month, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA) on April 27, 2016, sending the bill to the White House for President Obama’s expected signature. The DTSA will amend the Economic Espionage Act of 1996 and provide federal civil recourse for companies and individuals that have been victimized by trade secret misappropriation. The DTSA, which will co-exist with state-level trade secrets law, aims to further harmonize the law through a single federal statute, allowing for more predictable, nationwide case law to be developed.
