Croatia will officially join the European Union (EU), becoming the 28th member state to accede to the multinational trading block. Protection for all existing Community Trademarks (CTM) and Community Designs (CD) will automatically extend to Croatia, as of July 1, 2013, with no additional administrative action or payment of fees. Any new CTM application or CD filed after July 1, will have coverage expanded to that country. After Slovenia, Croatia is the second former Yugoslav republic to join the EU.
