COJK Attorneys Participate in CASRIP 2017 Summer Institute
COJK patent attorneys Rhys Lawson and David Sheldon presented at the 2017 Patent and Intellectual Property Law Summer Institute conducted by the Center for Advanced Study & Research on Innovation Policy (CASRIP) at the University of Washington School of Law. David's presentation, “Appeals in the U.S. Patent Office,” provided an overview of the patent appeals process, including pre-filing considerations and other important elements of an appeal. Rhys' presentation, “Design Patents: An Important Tool in Your IP Toolbox,” explored the use of design patents to protect IP, how design patents are obtained, and the potential risks of infringing a third-party’s design patent.
The Center for Advanced Study & Research on Innovation Policy is a research and policy development institute focusing on problems in patents and other property ownership rights in high technology. The CASRIP Summer Institute teaches the fundamentals of patent prosecution, patent litigation, technology licensing, and IP management from a comparative law perspective. The Summer Institute took place from July 10 – 21, 2017.
