COJK Announces Election of Two New Members
COJK is pleased to announce that Casey Fitzpatrick and Melissa Nowak have been elected to the membership, effective January 1, 2016.

Casey is a member of the firm’s patent practice group, focusing his practice in software-related inventions and technology. He assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, freedom-to-operate opinions, and patent infringement and invalidity analysis in the context of litigation and opinions of counsel. Casey’s technical expertise covers a wide range of computing technologies, including specialized systems and tools for mobile devices, vehicle computer systems, graphical user interfaces, digital video and audio codecs, digital photography and image processing, digital projectors, e-commerce, and software development and testing tools. Casey received his J.D. cum laude, from the University of Idaho. He received his M.Sc. degree in computer science from University College London, and his B.S. in general science, with concentrations in computer science and mathematics, from the University of Oregon.
Melissa is a member of the firm’s patent and trademark practice groups. Currently focusing her practice on developing patent portfolios to secure patent protection for clients’ inventions, Melissa also assists clients with trademark and copyright matters. Her areas of particular technical expertise include molecular biology, immunology, genetics, and neurosciences. Representative client technologies include applications relating to kinase inhibitors, fluorophore-protein conjugates, pH monitoring systems, microfluidic devices, DNA isolation and purification, high throughput drug screening, bacterial inhibitors, peptides, nanoparticles, antibiotic compounds, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, transcription modules, somatic embryogenesis, and dietary and nutritional supplements. Melissa received her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law, her M.S. in biology from the University of Mexico, and her B.S. in biology from the University of Georgia.
