Significant changes to Australia's patent law take effect April 15, 2013 as a result of the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Raising the Bar) Act, which passed into law on April 15, 2012. These changes reflect the Australian government's goal to subject the country's patents to the same or equivalent patentability standards faced by patents in key trading nations. This is the first major reform to Australia's patent law since the consolidation of the Patent Act of 1990.
