2019 NIHF Inductees Honored
On May 2, 2019, nineteen of the world’s foremost inventors were honored at the 47th Annual National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) induction ceremony, where U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Director Andrei Iancu delivered remarks at the event. Of the inductees, nine living inventors were presented with medals, and ten were honored posthumously. The induction ceremony took place at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
Founded in 1973, the NIHF is dedicated to recognizing those individuals who have contributed great technological and scientific achievements that help to stimulate national and international growth. In partnership with the USPTO, the NIHF has impacted 2.2 million children, educators, college students, and inventors since 1990, and 200,000 in 2018 alone. The criterion for induction requires candidates to hold a U.S. patent that has contributed significantly to the nation's welfare and the advancement of science and the useful arts. As of 2019, 582 inventors have been inducted into the NIHF.
